Hello

Artist Biography

Jane’s lifelong artistic journey has been one of continuous discovery and happy accidents! She was born and raised in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Although she currently resides in Regina, her art studio is nestled in a resort at Buffalo Pound Lake where she escapes the hustle and bustle of the city.

Inspiration for Jane’s artwork comes from the awe and excitement she feels from the interaction of light and energy. Her cloudscapes reflect an ethereal light while her prairie landscapes capture the glistening sun or moon on the water of lakes, rivers and sloughs. Electrical light and energy are portrayed in her nocturnes.

Basically self-taught, her work has been influenced by many late and great artists. Jane has participated in numerous workshops and experimented with different art styles and media. Her contemporary representational artwork in acrylic and mixed media borders on the realm of abstraction.

Her deep appreciation for the healing of mind, body and soul through the integration of colour, light and sound is the manifestation of her career as a medical professional. Her artwork provides a psychological sense of well-being to the viewer.

Recent certification in Gemmology has enabled Jane to create an “art jewel box” from which she extracts a limited palette of rich metallic jewel-toned hues to achieve a luminous quality in her artwork.

Through various fields of experience, her artwork has evolved into an artistic expression and style uniquely her own.

Jane has participated in many juried exhibitions and her artwork can be found in corporate and private collections, locally and abroad. One painting is held in a permanent global collection – Imago Mundi (Italy).

“Colour provokes a psychic vibration. Colour hides a power still unknown but real,
which acts on every part of the human body”

– Wassily Kandisnky

Artist Statement

I am compelled to paint! My goal as an artist is to capture your attention, draw you in and transport you to another realm, place or time. In much the same way as a good book.

By starting with a realistic approach, my work transitions inwards to an impressionistic and/or abstracted style. As an artist, I like to think in photographic terms of sharp focus, soft focus and out of focus, to create a sense of depth.

My career as a medical professional has provided me with a deep appreciation for the visual properties of colour and light. I like to use purple as my grounding colour because of its calming effect on mind, body and soul. Purple is the combination of the cool stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. Application of light and contrasting colours creates energy and excitement. A combination of these processes provides a sense of balance.

A touch of “bling” bestows a magical quality to my artwork with my newest signature application of diamond-like sparkles on water and snow. It is a manifestation related to my experience in Gemmology.

All my best to inspire your beautiful soul!

“I like people who get excited about the change of seasons, the sound of the ocean, watching the sunset, the smell of rain and starry nights.”
